Chenille Worm by Aaron Caldwell

This worm pattern was a great producer for me this year on the Bow. I had little confidence in this type of worm before this season but I have changed my mind because it was a major producer for me with clients this fall. Go ahead and play with the colors a bit – the fish seem to like certain shades on certain days.

It’s a very simple fly to tie but works well when nymphed light from the boat, or heavier from the shore. As with all my flies, I am fussy about hook selection and think it’s vital to your success in hooking and especially landing fish. I have tried other hooks but have settled on this one – it is nice and strong for hard pulling fall fish. has a good point and a nice kink to create realistic looking worms

Materials list Hook: Daiichi 1730 #8

Thread: Flat waxed nylon grey

Chenille: fine poopah, fine brown

Tip – try using a loop knot to attach your worm while fishing. It gives it a little more motion in the water
