Green Butt Tube by Aaron Caldwell
A couple of years ago I obtained a number of bags of blue eared pheasant from a friend. All I needed to do in return was tie him some flies. Blue eared pheasant is currently the best known substitute for blue heron used in classical spey flies. Those bags of materials had sat unused until recently. Last summer Fish Tales purchased two skins - one of a blue eared pheasant and one of a white eared pheasant (which i have never seen before) from a friend/customer of ours. Recently I plucked and graded these skins and we have put them up for sale. Working with these feathers inspired me to tie some flies with my previously unused material.
This fly is a spin off of a black bear green butt salmon fly with some spey hackle but they are fun to tie and look “fishy.”
