The Skinny Water Bendback by Aaron Caldwell
This is a fly I have used with great success for bonefish in extremely shallow water. This fly is also a “soft lander” which makes it great for really shallow presentations. It is a bendback style so it rides upside down and in doing that it stays relatively weedless. It’s a great fly for fishing on turtlegrass flats as well. Another bonus is it’s quite simple to tie.
Hook: Daiichi 2546 Size 2-6
Thread: Shrimp Pink flat waxed nylon.
Wing 1: White or Tan Superhair
Wing 2: Tan Bucktail
Legs: Loco legs or bonefish pink sili legs
Tip- Don’t be afraid of using head cement at every step while tying. It just makes for a stronger fly in the end.
