Walking with rods….

We ventured to Kananaskis Country last week for a family outing. This was one of our first hiking/fishing trips with the kids ages 8 and 5. They’re both keen fishers and have floated the Bow numerous times but had never had to carry rods through the bush.
One tip we shared with the oldest - from a lesson [...]

Bow River Report July 28

Wow… Hard to believe July is almost over.
The Bow continues to fish well with nymphing being the most consistent method. Try stonefly nymphs like the Jimmy Legs or Rubber Leg Squirrel. Other good choices are San Juan Worms - in a variety of sizes/colors, Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ears, Evil Weevils, and caddis pupae.
If you’re still itching [...]

Bow River and Mountain Stream Report-July 2-3, Sean Britt

BOW RIVER
If you were in town this weekend you likely noticed the stonefly and caddis hatch getting better and better…to the point where its about time to cash in on those (cough cough) sick days.
Good reports of early morning and late evening fish taken on the dry stone. Later in the morning and evening the caddis [...]

Bow River - June 30

The Bow is in prime condition with visibility at 2 1/2 - 3 feet in the city section. Flows are still high so be cautious when wading.
There’s plenty of caddis action in the evenings (as the sun’s going down). Favorite caddis patterns include the Peacock caddis, Swisher’s dancing caddis, Black Elk Hair Caddis. You can have [...]

Bow River Report - June 23rd (Sean Britt)

With a break in the rains, I grabbed my rod and dog and headed down the river for some action after work. The number one thing that surprised me was how much higher the river has risen in the past few days. There was water in what was a footpath 3 feet above the water [...]

Bow River Report-June 19th (Sean Britt)

The good news is, Alberta is receiving some well-needed rain…the bad news is (especially for farmers) that we may be getting a bit too much. Hit the water for a few hours and first thing that anyone would notice if they made it to the banks is that the river is up considerably from last [...]

I don’t consider myself much of a techie but am learning to appreciate how worthwhile handheld technology can be. Two good apps I’ve uploaded to my Iphone are “Animated Fishing Knots” (John Sherry - $0.99) and AB Fishing (Orbital Marketing - free.)
The Animated fishing knots application features a selection of knots for line to line connections, loop connections, and terminal [...]
